Job Description

At CHDI, we are seeking a highly motivated and organized Program Manager with a strong background managing contracts, oversight of budgets, and project planning in the biopharma sector, and experience in the coordination and management of preclinical science-based studies. In addition the candidate should be very detail-oriented and have significant experience working with Ph.D. level scientists. The position offers professional growth opportunities, engagement in a new model of non-profit orphan disease drug discovery, and an entrepreneurial work environment with motivated colleagues seeking to have an impact on the advancement of treatments for Huntington disease.

  • Contribute to internal project tracking of strategic goals and implementation (MS Project)
  • Coordinate internal collaborative projects within the preclinical and across with the clinical organization
  • Coordinate, track and monitor studies at external Contract Research Organizations and academic research labs
  • Management of new and existing projects, conducting internal and external reviews of ongoing studies, oversight of progress reports from associated investigators and development of project milestones in compliance with Foundation policies
  • Oversight and management of financial budgets and reporting, including review of invoices and audit reports
  • Work with internal legal and finance groups and external partners including University Technology Transfer Offices and CROs to identify and resolve relevant contracting issues such as material transfers, IP, and budgets in a timely manner
  • Partner with CHDI Science Directors in the assessment of scientific information and materials in support of legal review of research projects as needed
  • Participate with scientific teams to formulate and implement strategies
  • Participate in and host selected monthly project managers’ team meetings


The candidate of choice will have:

  • Bachelors or Master’s degree (science degree preferred)
  • Project/Program management experience (professional certification a plus)
  • A minimum of one year of experience in the conduct of research studies in the biopharma industry or equivalent
  • Track record of self-motivation and “problem-solving” skills
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills with very high attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and proactively across all levels of an organization
  • Proficiency in written and oral communication, as well as computer skills including facility with Excel and with MS Project
  • Occasional travel to CHDI’s LA and NYC offices as well as globally and nationally when needed to work with partners

Job experience desired:

  • Experience with budgeting and finance for research projects
  • Experience in an academic laboratory setting (preferably with some experience in laboratory management)
  • Experience in coordinating studies with Contract Research Organizations (CROs) and collaborating sites
  • Experience in alliance management
  • Experience in licensing and technology transfer in industry or academic setting
  • Experience in academic grant submission (IRB submission a plus)
  • Expertise in project management software applications
