CHDI is a privately-funded, not-for-profit biomedical research organization devoted to a single disease – Huntington’s disease (HD). Our mission is to develop drugs that will slow the progression of HD and provide meaningful clinical benefit to patients. CHDI is a “science first” organization; our foremost consideration is to do the best science as quickly and efficiently as possible.
CHDI’s clinical department oversees a portfolio of clinical research projects aimed at understanding the natural progression and pathophysiological basis of HD, developing the best biomarkers and outcome measures for use in clinical trials, finding ways to expedite and improve the execution of clinical trials, paving relevant regulatory pathways, and working with external partners to support their clinical development plans. The clinical department engages a diverse array of partners to develop this portfolio, including academic institutions, government agencies, contract research organizations (CROs), biotech and pharmaceutical companies. The clinical unit encompasses five interconnected teams.
We are seeking a strong physician-scientist that will work closely with the CMO, and other members of the clinical research teams. This work implies an engagement with projects related to the clinical development of new therapeutic interventions but also epidemiological projects, biomarker discovery and validation and instruments validation studies.
This intelligent, proactive, conciliatory individual will work on a close, interdisciplinary basis with internal colleagues (scientific, legal and financial) and external collaborators (physicians, academic institutions, CROs, and biotech and pharmaceutical companies) on all aspects of CHDI’s clinical research and development efforts.
The Medical Director Clinical Research will be expected to mentor and give clinical guidance to the Science Directors, and Program Managers on the CHDI Clinical department teams. He/She will define, in coordination with the CMO, the strategy for the experimental clinical research team; this means using his or her medical, research and managerial expertise to decide on the best/feasible technical opportunities in the face of knowledge gaps;
- contribute to the development of the strategies of the other clinical teams;
- provide clinical direction, leadership, and coaching to the Science Directors and Program Managers of the CHDI clinical department as directed by CMO;
- anticipate areas of risk, and plan and implement solutions to mitigate these risks in collaboration with CMO;
- demonstrate a collegial, collaborative interpersonal style and the ability to implement inclusive approaches that foster consensus and engagement across diverse constituencies; and
- maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and partners in external collaborative efforts (universities, government agencies, not-for-profit organizations, pharma/biotech companies).
The successful candidate will have
- An advanced degree (MD or MD/PhD) in a relevant field (neurology or psychiatry); and
- Relevant postdoctoral experience a plus.
Professional Work Experience
- 5+ years hands-on experience with early stages of drug development (phase I and II). Neurodegenerative diseases and/or movement disorders experience preferred;
- Experience with GCP/ICH guidelines and best practices in clinical research and development.;
- Demonstrated leadership managerial and communication skills, including mentoring others.
